Georgette (from crepe georgette) is a dull finished crepe which takes it’s name after the 20th century French dress maker Georgette de Plante.
Traditionally made from silk, today georgette is typically made from polyester in tightly twisted threads causing them to crinkle when relaxed, giving it a lovely texture.
For a lightweight fabric it is surprisingly strong and holds it’s shape very well in garments, yet flows and drapes like a dream making it the ideal choice for drapery of all kinds and for display purposes.
Other uses include: Lingerie, nightwear, blouses, tops, dresses, scarves, camisoles, saris, kaftans, overlays, crafts, display and more.
It also works perfectly as an overlay fabric on gowns and dresses to stunning effect.
Machine wash in a wash bag on delicate setting or hand wash.
